Industry Mourns Loss of Ger van Burik

The fresh produce industry is in mourning following the loss of Ger van Burik, a respected figure known for his significant contributions to international trade fairs and charitable work.

Ger van Burik, who passed away on 24 July, was a prominent figure in the sector, particularly recognized for organizing the Dutch presence at major international fresh produce exhibitions.

For over 14 years until the end of 2020, Ger played a crucial role in coordinating the Netherlands’ collective presence at key events such as Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong, Fruit Attraction in Madrid, and PMA Fresh Summit, now known as the Global Produce & Floral Show, in the United States.

His efforts not only elevated the Dutch fresh produce sector on the global stage but also fostered strong industry relationships.

Industry colleagues have expressed their condolences and shared memories of Ger’s impact.

Corrie Visbeen from Best Fresh Group reflected on LinkedIn, offering condolences to Ger’s family and friends and recalling the enjoyable experiences of working alongside him during trade fairs.

Christiaan de Jager, lead buyer at Bakker Barendrecht, also paid tribute, highlighting Ger’s friendly and youthful spirit.

Edwin Vanlaerhoven of Certhon described Ger as a worthy ambassador for the sector and cherished the beautiful memories they shared.

In addition to his industry contributions, Ger was deeply involved with Mercy Ships Netherlands, where he served as an ambassador volunteer.

His dedication to the organization was evident in his ability to leverage his extensive network within the fresh produce sector to support Mercy Ships’ mission.

Ger played a important role in organizing events, leading a Vision Trip to Sierra Leone, and enhancing the organization’s presence at trade fairs and meetings.

Mercy Ships Netherlands acknowledged his dedication, knowledge, and enthusiasm as invaluable assets to their efforts.

As the industry remembers Ger van Burik, his legacy continues through the numerous connections he established and the positive impact he had both professionally and personally.

His work not only strengthened the Dutch fresh produce sector’s global presence but also exemplified the importance of using industry networks for charitable causes.
