Celebrating Women in Fresh Produce Farming

Celebrating Women in Fresh Produce Farming

Woman-led Creekside merges family-farm heritage with sustainable innovation after WBENC certification, championing female growers and next-generation organics

As spring unfolds its vibrant tapestry, the fresh produce industry takes a moment to celebrate the pioneering women who are reshaping the landscape of farming.

One such beacon of innovation is Creekside Organics, a company rooted in women’s leadership and family farming.

Recently certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), Creekside Organics is making significant strides in agriculture.

This certification acknowledges Creekside as majority woman-owned, operated, and controlled, underscoring its commitment to female empowerment in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Under the leadership of Co-CEOs Bianca Kaprielian and Brenda Haught, Creekside Organics is not only a testament to women’s evolving role in the industry but also a model of sustainable practices.

Brenda Haught, who founded Creekside in 2011, was driven by a passion for organic agriculture and the desire to support family farms.

At the end of the day, we are not only growers and produce marketing experts, we are moms, daughters, partners, Haught stated, highlighting the diverse roles women play in the industry.Bianca Kaprielian, a fourth-generation grower, complements this vision with her extensive background in agriculture.

Earlier this year, her company, Fruit World, entered a 50/50 merger with Creekside Organics, aiming to preserve the essence of family farming for future generations.

Kaprielian noted with pride, emphasizing the unique leadership structure that distinguishes Creekside.

Despite women representing 36% of all U.S. agriculture producers, only a small fraction of farming operations are entirely women-led.

Creekside Organics stands proudly in this minority, using its platform to uplift both multi-generational and first-generation growers.

The company is dedicated to growing high-quality organic produce, ranging from artichokes to citrus, and partners with other growers who share their values.

Creekside’s commitment extends beyond its own fields, as it actively supports the next generation of farmers, ensuring the prosperity of family farms.

As consumers select fresh produce for their tables, they are contributing to a broader mission: supporting women who are cultivating a more sustainable and inclusive future in agriculture.
